Back pain is very common - for example 60% of individuals complain of back pain at some point in any two week period. In most sufferers the pain is due to minor injuries. In more severe cases there may be more serious underlying pathology such as a 'slipped' disc. This can cause pressure on the nerve roots resulting in referred pain down the leg – as in sciatica.
